✅2024 Election, 📈Trends, 🎧Podcast

Wishing a happy belated Father's Day to all the fathers and resilient men everywhere.

1 Big Thing: The Election No One Wants

The 2024 election is shaping up to be many things, but most importantly, it might be the election between two candidates no one wants.

Why it Matters: The election will pit the incumbent President, Joe Biden, against former President Donald Trump. This contest is likely to be closer, more contested, and perhaps even more chaotic than their first match-up in 2020.

  • Both candidates remain unpopular with the population at large, and voters overwhelmingly don’t like their choices on the ballot this November.

  • According to research from Pew Research Center, Presidents Biden and Trump are the least liked pair of major party presidential candidates in three decades.

  • At stake are the future tax policy, sustainability and energy policy, consequential foreign policy decisions, inflation and the economy, immigration and border security, and much more.

Go Deeper: Six states will decide the outcome of the election, and in each of these states, President Biden trails former President Trump in the average of polling by FiveThirtyEight’s election forecast. The states are:

  • Michigan: Trump leads by 0.3 percentage points.

  • Wisconsin: Trump leads by 0.4 percentage point.

  • Pennsylvania: Trump leads by 1.5 percentage points.

  • Arizona: Trump leads by 4.4 percentage points.

  • Nevada: Trump leads by 5.0 percentage points.

  • Georgia: Trump leads by 5.1 percentage points.

According to Axios, 6% of voters in six states will decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

Yes, But: While President Trump leads in most states, the margins are slim, and the race could go either way.

  • In a simulation of the election conducted by FiveThirtyEight, President Biden wins 52 out of 100 times.

  • President Trump wins 48 out of 100 times.

Currently, President Trump has 235 electoral votes that are solid or leaning his way, and President Biden has 226 electoral votes leaning his way.

  • This means that only 77 electoral votes are likely to be contested, with 270 needed to capture the White House in November.

The two debates scheduled to take place this summer could, in theory, swing the race one way or another. Be sure to tune into the first one scheduled for June 27, 2024, hosted by CNN.
